The indictable charge of murder was today read to Ivor Thom, the Williamsburg Corentyne man who is accused of murdering Vishram Mobabir, last Sunday morning. When the matter was called this morning in the Reliance Magistrates’ Court, the man stood expressionless as the charge was read to him by Magistrate Renita Singh.
The 44-year-old man was involved in an altercation with two brothers, one of whom he fatally stabbed, while the other was injured during the assault.
According to a Police report, the incident occurred just about 02:20h on Sunday Morning. Mobabir of Williamsburg Settlement, Corentyne Berbice was reportedly coming to the aid of his brother, Kunal Singh who was being stabbed by the suspect.
The man then turned the weapon on him and dealt him several stabs to his neck and other parts of his body. The man died while he was receiving medical attention at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Thom was remanded to prison and the case transferred to the Albion magistrates’ court where he will make his next court appearance on September 12th.
