Top Cop Seelall Persaud told the Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate the alleged assassination plot against President David Granger, that he gave a ‘suggestion’ not an instruction to have businessman Nazim Khan placed on bail.
The City businessman is accused of plotting to assassinate President Granger. This shocking allegation was leveled against him by Andriff Gilard.
It was revealed to the commission that Persaud instructed Khan’s release, despite the gravity of the offence. Now, this was done while Persaud was on leave and David Ramnarine was acting commissioner.
Khan was arrested by Police and his property searched following the allegation.
The top cop said his opinion was that Nazim Khan should not have been detained, as there were “serious credibility issues” with the report, as indicated by the investigating rank.
He maintains that his judgment was sound and still stands.
Persaud admitted that he has been friends with Imran Khan, the brother of the man accused of plotting to kill the president, but stated that he does not share the same relationship with Nazim.
Acting Commissioner of Police, Ramnarine told the commission last Friday, that the alleged assassination plot against the President was not properly investigated in his opinion.
Persaud said there are no logics to Ramnarine’s opinion that the Police did not properly investigate the matter.
