An employee of the Guyana Power and Light Company is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he came into contact with a live high voltage wire during maintenance work around the Stabroek Market in the vicinity of Demico House.
Workers from the utility company were called into action after a tree in the compound of the St. Andrews Kirk Church fell and burst several electrical wires around the area before ending up on the road.
It was during efforts to repair the damaged wire and restore power that the employee came into contact with the wire and was tossed from the pole. The employee was in full protective gear. Vendors in the area described the incident as horrific.
