Managing Director of the Professional Guard Service, (PGS), Shawn Kirkpatrick said while he is happy that his team was safely able to thwart the Republic Bank robbery attempt, he is also saddened by the fact that a young man was lost his life.

His comments were made hours after the fatal shooting of Guyanese Scholar, 25-year-old Elton Wray. The young man was an agronomist attached to the National Agriculture Research Extension Institute (NAREI). He was sent to China on a government scholarship and attained his degree.

Wray was shot during an exchange of gunfire, while his accomplice, Jamal Haynes, who worked at the said bank for seven years sustained gunshot wounds to both legs. Wray’s cousin, 22-year-old Keron Sanders who was a part of the robbery gang was apprehended and is assisting with the investigation.

The private company was contracted by Republic Bank to provide security services.

Kirkpatrick also confirmed that the attack by the armed men were not carried out on the security deposit vehicle but the bank.
