Commander of B Division, Linden Alves said the breakthrough was due to diligent and persistent work that was based on additional information gathered by Police investigators. Two months ago businessman Saeed Hamid aka “Saho” went missing after he left Queenstown, Corriverton, Berbice. According to Hamid’s sons, neighbours told them that the man was last seen going into a car.
Two men are currently in custody as the police continue their probe. Alves said the remains have not yet been confirmed to be that of the businessman and posited that DNA tests would have to be done on the remains. He also said the two men in custody are co-operating with the police and it was the men who took investigators to the scene at Rosignol where the remains were burnt next to a Mandir. Alves said once the police work is completed the file will be sent to the DPP for advice.
The victim’s smaller son recalled that his father spoke about going up to Rosignol to do some business.
Afraz, the older son said no one knows exactly where his father went, with whom he was doing business with, who he traveled with or who he was going to meet.
