Dead are Indrajit ‘Danny’ Sham, 37, of Betsy Ground Village, East Canje and Amar ‘Punk’ Bissoon, 21, of Adelphi Settlement, East Canje.
The Police say a twelve gauge pump action shotgun, a .32 pistol, eleven live cartridges and five live.32 rounds were found in the bandit’s possession. Three spent cartridges and a .32 spent shell were also retrieved at the scene. Investigators are making stringent efforts to apprehend the other suspects.
The police report stated that a 6 man gang armed with guns around 5:00 this morning went to a ranch house at Potocco Creek, Berbice River, held three male labourers at gunpoint and stole the following which they subsequently loaded onto a boat and escaped:
Twenty-three (23) sheep, fifteen (15)ducks, a solar panel, a radio, a quantity of rope, and other valuables; all property of a 50-year-old businessman of Vryheid, West Canje, Berbice.
According to the Police report prompt response, diligent investigative work and brave and courageous actions by ranks of the Guyana Police Force stationed in Berbice, have resulted in the demise of two bandits, apprehension of two of four other suspects and the recovery of all of the stolen property in the Berbice River today.
Shortly after the robbery, the police were informed and a team commanded by a Senior Detective acting on intelligence, intercepted a boat with the two suspects who are now in custody, in the Berbice River and based on further information, the ranks then proceeded to a location in the vicinity of where the robbery allegedly occurred and found all of the animals with their legs bound and the other stolen property loaded inside of a camouflaged aluminium boat.
Soon after the lawmen disembarked their boat, they were confronted by the now dead men who discharged several rounds at them; the officers quickly adapted tactical positions, returned fire and fatally wounded the men who have been positively identified by the victims as members of the gang who committed the robbery.
The bodies are presently at the Arokium Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem.
