Trinidadian Prison escapee Cornelius Thomas, was arrested today (July, 17) at a location in ‘C’ field Sophia during a joint operation between the Police and Army.
Crime chief, Senior Superintendent, Wendell Blanhum confirmed the arrest of the escapee and said the prisoner was arrested around 15:20hours. He said Thomas is currently in custody at the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters and is being interviewed by ranks of the Major Crimes Unit.
The joint service was hot on his trail since Sunday, after intelligence revealed that the man was sighted in the Sophia area. He managed to elude capture on Sunday, but the lawmen were always confident that he would be captured.
Currently, there are four high profile escapees on the run, among them is Bartica Massacre death row inmate Roden Williams, who is said to be the mastermind of the recent jail break.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Police Force said in its efforts to recapture the inmates who would have escaped from the Georgetown Prison, is appealing to members of the public, relatives, and friends to give any relevant information as to the whereabouts of these escapees so that they can be captured and returned to the prison.
“Also, an appeal is being made to the escapees to surrender to the police or relevant authority, to avoid any serious confrontation that is likely to result in the use of force. All information will be treated with a high degree of confidence and also the rights of those escapees will be respected and upheld,” the police stated.
