Labourer, Anand Sookram’s body was discovered in a pool of blood on his bed about 07:30hrs Sunday morning, with his throat slit. The gruesome discovery was made by the dead man’s seventeen-year-old son who lives in the said village and went to pay a visit.
One of the two suspects in Saturday night’s Corentyne murder has reportedly confessed to the brutal killing of the labourer.
The suspect is said to be a fisherman known as ‘Saltfish’. Police are also seeking a second suspect known as ‘Raju’. The two are said to have killed Anand Sookram also called ‘Radesh’ and ‘Halfway’, 42-years-old at his lot 50 Friendship home on Saturday evening.
The dead man’s brother Alan told this publication that on Saturday night he saw the two suspects on the road; one with a knife and the other with a cutlass. He said he tried to call the police but did not get through. According to him, both suspects had previously threatened to kill his brother.
Police were able to arrest the prime suspect who has since admitted to committing the crime. However, even as the other suspect remains on the run, another son of the dead man, 14-year-old Satish, called ‘Fato, said he had a frightening encounter with the ‘Raju’ following the incident.
He said he had one of his ears severed two years ago by the suspect who is in custody.
The dead man leaves to mourn seven children, his mother and several siblings.
