A senior Police officer is in hot water after he was busted with over 30 cases of “Johnny Walker” Whiskey at a Police roadblock at Whim on the Corentyne Berbice.
The officer was identified as Motie Dookie, Deputy Superintendent of Police and he was recently appointed as Head of the Special Weapons and Tactics unit
(SWAT) replacing Lonsdale Withrite who was removed from the post after his gun was stolen during a robbery.
There are reports that after the Police corporal and other ranks stopped and searched the senior officer’s vehicle and found the items, he allegedly told them that the liquor was for a Police Old Year’s night function to be held today, but after checking, it was revealed that his story was false.
Police sources told this newscast that now the Enforcement arm of the Guyana Revenue Authority will be called in to investigate the matter and could call upon the officer to produce the documentation for the Liquor. In recent times, the GRA and the Guyana Police Force have stepped up the fight against smuggling across our porous borders.
The senior police officer is in custody as the investigation continues.
