One of two Corentyne teenagers who was allegedly drugged and raped by two men now says she will take her own life if justice is not served. She conveyed those sentiments to her mother. The girl believes that the suspects had set out to destroy her future.
Speaking with the mother of the victim, who tearfully related to this publication that her daughter is currently in a state of depression and she is fearful for her life.
According to the devastated mother of 3, she was visited at her place of work by the perpetrator’s employee and was asked to accept a settlement for the actions of the two young men. The woman noted that she is of the belief that the perpetrator’s employee will obstruct the course of justice.
The mother also said that at about 10:30hrs on October 31st, she was at the market plying her trade when she received a phone call from the head teacher of her daughter’s school, indicating that the teen was asked to go home after being involved in an altercation. However, the teen never returned home.
A report was subsequently made at the number 62 Village outpost, after the teen’s mother received reports that her daughter along with another female friend were seen in the village.
It was not until Wednesday morning that the two teenage girls were found in the same village.
The teen said that after she left school, she and a friend were picked up by two men who took them to a rum shop and encouraged them to drink alcohol. This publication was told that both teens were then taken to a house where the men allegedly raped them. The mother related that her daughter was taken to the hospital and it was confirmed that she was raped. The woman said it was also observed that the teen had marks on her body which also help to support the rape allegation.
Recounting what she was told by her daughter, the traumatized mother disclosed that after her daughter woke up she saw one of the perpetrators lying next to her while she was half naked. She tried to get out of the bed, but fell and was then picked up by one of the men who also helped to fully dress her. They were then led out of the house and were told to find their way home.
The woman said her daughter no longer wants to attend school because of the embarrassment she will face. She is calling on the relevant authorities to carry out a thorough investigation into the allegation.
Both suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
