The newborn baby was to be sold for $1.5 million Guyana dollars. The deal was reportedly made by her father. The well-crafted plan was in the works for a few months, but relatives got information about the plan and thwarted those plans on Tuesday. According to relatives the new addition to the couple’s family would have placed additional strain on them since they already struggle to raise four other children between the ages of 2-12.
One relative said it was during one of those frustrating days that the Surinamese took advantage of. The infant’s father who operates a tractor was approached at their #68 village home by someone from neighboring Suriname and they agreed to sell the child upon birth.
On February 18, the 24-year-old mother gave birth to a bouncing baby girl and the buyer showed up with his documents which were allegedly signed by the child’s father and was ready to make good on the payment upon handing over of the baby after she was discharged on Wednesday. However, relatives heard whispers of the story and called in the media who notified the relevant authorities. The discharge of the mother was subsequently delayed and an investigation was launched.
After the secret came out the child’s mother had a change of heart and decided she did not want to sell her newborn. She then began blaming the child’s father for accepting the deal. Relatives are now pooling their resources to avoid the sale of the infant. They believe the baby was intended to be used as a sacrifice.
