Immediate action will be taken against drivers who are refusing to transport nurses and other health care providers to and from work as Guyanese continue to fight COVID-19.
In a release to the media, the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU) noted that they are displeased with the behavior portrayed by some drivers towards nurses as those workers are indispensable in the fight against the viral disease.
GPSU, Executive Council said that even though Minibuses are an essential part of Guyana’s public transportation system, such behavior displayed by the drivers should be put aside in this crucial time when health care workers are needed the most for their service.
They noted that all precautionary measures are taken by health care workers and nurses for their health and safety before leaving work and home and further stated that if any public transportation operator is still concerned about transporting these workers they should start implementing strategies to help prevent the spread of the virus.
A dispenser with hand sanitizer should be put in place by operators for their passengers as the GPSU ask for equal treatment for all passengers during this global pandemic.
Health care workers are asked to record the registration number of any public transportation that refuses to let them join their vehicle.
