A West Coast Demerara family is continuing to mourn the death of a young member of their family who was killed in an accident involving a police vehicle. Deputy Commissioner of Police (ag) Calvin Brutus promised the grieving family that a thorough and impartial investigation would be conducted. Brutus was at the time offering condolences on behalf of the Guyana Police Force to the family of 12 year old Kayla Barnabus, who was killed in the accident. Brutus and other senior officers were at the time visiting the grieving parents at their School Street, Goed Fortuin home.
He noted the Guyana Police Force’s commitment of helping the family through this extremely difficult time and assured that the GPF would assist in every way possible to take care of the expenses of the wake and funeral arrangements for Kayla. The 12-year-old lost her life on Wednesday June 1, 2022 at Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara, after she was struck down by a vehicle belonging to the Police Force which was transporting prisoners at the time. Kayla’s mom described her as a godly child that was brilliant, kind, compassionate, caring and loved by all. Kayla attended the West Demerara Secondary School where she was a first form student. The driver of the police vehicle has since been placed under close arrest.
