Five persons were taken into custody by the Custom Anti-Narcotics in connection with the discovery of 1.5 million worth of cocaine on Monday.
The five arrested included a policeman who was at a Norton Street Wortmanville Georgetown residence when the drug enforcement unit conducted its search. The residence is home to Andre Clarke, who the drug enforcement agency has described as a known trafficker and that he has been under surveillance for some time. He too was taken into custody according to the report.
According to the drug enforcement agency a subsequent search of the premises led to the discovery of four (4) parcels containing cocaine. The cocaine weighed approximately 1.5 kilograms, with an estimated street value of approximately $1.5M Guyana dollars.
Andre Clarke along with four (4) persons was arrested including a police sergeant who was present at the premises at the time of the search.
Those in custody are Andre Clarke; 43, Akeem Lashley; 26, Dion Bascom; 33, Rodwell George; 54, and Serena Mentus; 19. CANU said Clarke is no stranger to them as he was arrested and charged in 2011 by CANU after 590 grams of cocaine was found on his premises.
Further, CANU said In 2018 Clarke was again fingered in a drug seizure after an associate of his was arrested on his premises with a quantity of cocaine. The investigations are ongoing.
