Glendon Fogenay said he was at a meeting when he got a call that his house was on fire. Fogenay lived at 1739 Congress Drive, South Ruimveldt Park with his wife and mother.
He said his mother was at home at the time when the fire alarm was raised, but nothing was saved from the building and all of his family’s hard years of labour went up in flames. He said the damages are in the millions.
The Guyana Fire Service managed to contain the fire from spreading to any of the nearby houses.
Residents recalled seeing the fire coming from the roof of the building and immediately tried to render assistance.
The family believes that the fire may have been electrical in nature since neighbours recalled seeing the fire in it’s early stages coming from the Guyana Power and Light Connection at the back of the house.
