A twenty-seven-year-old man was today remanded to prison for the murder of his father-in-law. The man Adacena Benjamin, of Kuratuku, Cyuni River appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus to answer to the capital offence.

Attorney-at-Law Dexter Todd told the court that he was defending himself after he was being attacked by his inlaws.
However, Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told that the court that Lewis was chopped after he intervened in a domestic violence issue between Benjamin and his daughter. Benjamin who became annoyed armed himself with a cutlass and chopped Lewis to his left which resulted in his death.
Benjamin who will return to court on January 28, is expected to face additional charges which include injuries he inflicted on his brother-in-law.
Lewis hails from Lima Essequibo Coast but lived and operated a shop in the community.
