Four packs of cigarettes and 108 grams of suspected marijuana were found in footwear brought to the Lusignan jailhouse for a prisoner.
Director of Prisons Gladwin Samuels said the suspect came to the Lusignan Prison on Sunday afternoon to drop off clothing for a prisoner to attend court today. It was while the suspect was at the Lusignan checkpoint to deliver the court clothes and footwear that the items were placed on the table for the booking to take place. The ranks observed that the footwear appeared to look “funny”. The Director said when these bookings are being
done, the person would normally have to produce some form of identification.
The suspect, upon realising that something was wrong, took off running with his ID Card. The officer was able to observe his physical description and will provide same to the police, the Director said.
Meanwhile, more weed was found in the Lusignan Prisons on Sunday afternoon, this time next to a pig pen.
Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels said Lusignan Prison ranks were conducting security checks around 9:30 hours on July 8, 2018, when they observed a black bag in a drain next to the pig pen.
The bag was opened and searched and suspected marijuana, lighters and other items were found.
