Camp Street Prisoners who are being held temporarily at the Lusignan Prison are being granted bail for a number of petty and non-violent crimes by Magistrate Peter Hugh.
This is part of Government’s step to reduce the overcrowding at the prison, following the unrest in the City Sunday evening.
Magistrate Hugh is meeting in a temporary court setting at the Cecil Kilkenny Prison Officers’ Training School.
The 1000 prisoners who were being at the City Prison were transferred to various locations in Georgetown following a fire which destroyed most of the buildings in the prison compound.
