Shondell Williamson is motivated by the love she is now experiencing from her children to carry on and make the most of life. Shortly after she was doused with acid by her sons’ father, the children shunned.
The road to recovery for Shondel started months after she was doused with the dangerous substance by the man she once shared a relationship with for several years. She lost her sight, her face was badly disfigured and other parts of her body burnt.
Shondel said feeling the warmth of her two boys who once refused to come close to her has given her the strength to carry on. Still unable to see, Shondell’s one desire is to have her sight back after the second set of surgeries in the United States is done.
With the help of non-governmental organization saving hands emergency aid (SHEA), family members and friends of Williamson says her goal is to reach out to other women and continue to be a voice against domestic violence. She hopes her story can bring about the much-needed changes in society.
She said her first set of surgeries were nothing major, but they were successful and she expressed heartfelt thanks to the SHEA organization for making it possible.
She said she has already forgiven her children’s father, Alfred DeJonge, but would not accept his apology for the harm he has caused her. The matter is currently engaging the court.
