Three members of the family were today remanded to prison on drug trafficking charges. The three, 64-year-old Keith Barker, his wife 56-year-old Cheryl and their daughter in law Loretta Chisholm appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer to the charges.
The three were jointly charged with having 42 kilograms 500 grams of cannabis on September 21 at Lot 2926 North Ruimveldt home. The trio pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Cheryl was charged with having 628 grams of cannabis on the same day for the purpose of trafficking, while Chisholm was charged with having 1 kilogram of cannabis on the day in question.
The lawyer for the three accused Dexter Todd told the court that his clients had no knowledge of the drugs. The attorney added that on the day in question, the only family member who was not at home during the police search was Barker’s Son Keith King.
Todd told the court that King who returned home after the search turned himself over to law enforcement officers and admitted ownership of the drugs.
Harris told the court that 42 kilos of cannabis were found in a barrel in the house while a black bag of cannabis was found in Mrs. Barker’s room. A further search found more suspect cannabis hidden in a bag in Chisholm bedroom. The trio was remanded to prison until October 1st.
