The two dead persons were identified as a 75 -year-old male from Region 4 and an 86-year-old woman from Barima/Waini (Region 1).
A statement from the Ministry stated that “The 75 -year-old male and the 86-year old female both died while receiving care at our medical facility”.
Samples were collected from both at the time of admission and both patients tested positive for COVID-19.
The Ministry of Health expresses sincerest condolences to the families of these persons and will make every effort to provide all the necessary support during this difficult time to render any assistance needed.
Officials of the Ministry have contacted all relatives and persons to facilitate contact tracing and rapid assistance to everyone who may have been exposed to the now-dead persons. Meanwhile, Guyana’s Covid-19 cases have climbed to 1,958 with 74 cases recorded today. 15 persons are in the COVID-19 ICU. 533 are in home isolation, while the recovery cases have moved to 1,302.
