The decision was handed down by Magistrate Judy Latchman today in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. She said that there is absolutely no evidence to link Regan Rodrigues to the killing of Crum-Ewing and he was free to go.
The Director of Public Prosecution reinstituted the charges against Regan Rodrigues, months after the same magistrate discharged the charges in the preliminary hearing in the first trial. 14 oral statements allegedly made by Rodrigues were admitted into evidence, but Magistrate Latchman said they did not implicate Rodrigues in the murder and there is no evidence that Rodrigues used the gun, pulled the trigger and shot Crum-Ewing.
Crum-Ewing was executed in Diamond, East Bank Demerara on March 10th 2015, while he was encouraging persons to vote against the then PPP Government.
“Gray boy” was arrested and charged with his murder after the police found the murder weapon at his house at Riverview in Ruimveldt. The charges were later dismissed by Magistrate Judy Latchman last year, after she cited insufficient evidence against him. Rodrigues has always maintained that he was innocent of the crime.
