A domestic worker was today remanded to prison on drug trafficking charges. The charges were read to the Roxanne Carrington, a Bartica native before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The court was told that the 58-year-old woman had in her possession 2555 grams of cannabis and 1451 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
The woman’s attorney Latchmi Rahamat in her bail application said the drugs were not found in her client’s room but in a room, she rented to two travelers in an attempt to supplement her income.
However, the prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that drugs were found in the room of the travelers but the Carrington told them that she was given the drugs by one of the men to keep.
The woman was remanded to prison and the matter transferred to the Bartica Magistrates’ Court for a second appearance on July 12.
