The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) moments ago announced that it will be moving ahead with a full recount of all votes cast in the General and Regional Elections of March 2.
Details from the commission stated that the recount will be done chronologically, beginning from Region One, Barima-Waini.
Further details of the process will be shared shortly, the commission noted.
The Commission said it was meeting today to decide on the way forward, following the ruling of the Full Court on March 31, which dismissed an injunction filed by private citizen Ulita Grace Moore to block a national recount of the votes. Moore argued that it was unconstitutional.
GECOM’s decision has come even as Moore has approached the Appeal Court, asking that the decision of the Full Court be set aside and allow the Application to be heard. The Appellate Court of Justices Dawn Gregory Barnes, Brassington Reynolds and Rishi Persaud is currently hearing that appeal.
