Four men were today charged with the murder of West Coast Berbice taxi driver Mohamed Haniff.
The 56-year-old man was killed last Friday when bandits armed with a small handgun, a metal bar, and cutlass barged into his home in Experiment, West Coast Berbice.
The man was dealt several chops to his head, causing him to receive injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Today, the four suspects, Ivan Lindo, Sarju Mattadin, Devon MC Calmon and Royston Dowden appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh in the Fort Wellington Magistrates’ Court where the indictable charge of murder was read to them. The suspects are from Hopetown and Bath Settlement West Coast Berbice.
The four men were not required to plea to the charge and were remanded to prison until October 2nd. Meanwhile, Haniff’s wife is now in police custody as the lawmen continue their probe of the murder.
