The former Magistrate appeared in the Albion Magistrates’ court before Magistrate, Renita Singh and plead not guilty to the driving under the influence charge. He was released on his own recognisance. The matter goes to trial on September 15th. In the courtroom this morning, Sohan was represented by Attorney-at law, Ryan Crawford.Sohan was arrested following a hit and run accident which occurred at Williamsburg, Corentyne Berbice on Friday night, involving motor vehicle PJJ 6060 owned and driven by Chandra Sohan and a pedestrian.
There are reports that Sohan claims that he was proceeding West on the Southern side of Palmyra Public Road, when the pedestrian walked into the path of his vehicle. The man is currently a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital suffering from a broken jaw and leg.
It is alleged that after the accident Sohan drove to his home and failed to render assistance to the injured pedestrian. Sohan was arrested at his home and taken to the New Amsterdam Central Police Station, where a breathalyzer test was done and he was found to be above the legal alcohol limit. He was later released on $100,000 station bail.
