Ranks from Police ‘A’ Division were on Tuesday afternoon engaged in a shootout with two suspected bandits in Agricola, East Bank Demerara.
A media release from the force stated that it acted on the information and went to 4th Street, Agricola around 3:15.p.m. Upon arrival, ranks were confronted by two armed male suspects, one in possession of a shotgun with its barrel sawn off and the other with a handgun.
They bandits reportedly opened fire on the lawmen who adapted tactical positions and returned fire; during the exchange, the suspect with the shotgun was injured.
He was apprehended and the weapon retrieved, however, the other suspect managed to elude the ranks.
The injured suspect was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is being prepared to undergo surgery.
Meanwhile, a 63-year -old housewife, Parmaldai call ‘Galo’ of the same village who was resting in a hammock close to the shooting, was grazed by a stray bullet.
She was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Center, East Bank Demerara where she was treated and sent away.
However: her relatives took her to a private hospital where she is admitted. The Police Force wishes her a speedy recovery.
The force also explained that the suspect who was injured during the shootout is wanted for discharging a loaded firearm at Grove East Bank Demerara, on July 5, 2017.
Investigations are in progress.
