Even as Rusal continues to hold firm on its position to rescind the termination of the 61 employees, the workers are stepping up the pressure on the company.
The angry workers blocked the Berbice River leading to the Aroraima location of the company. Now this move will prevent the company from moving Bauxite to the area for export.
The workers placed rope and drums with reflectors to prevents accidents.
Several government ministers including Social Protection Ministers Amna Ally and Keith Scott met with the company’s senior management to discuss getting the workers reinstated but the company continues to hold firm to its decision.
Rusal’s management rejected the workers’ union and are of the belief that the workers should not have taken industrial action over the 1% salary increase. The company has also said that it is likely that more workers could be on the breadline.
