The Police and Fire Service officials were back at the burnt out building this morning taking pictures and statements from residents about the fire, which claimed the life of Sean Prince. Prince’s father who operates a shipping agency here in Guyana, but resides overseas owns the Nabacalis/ Golden Grove building.
Prince’s close friends said the man was in their company at a shop watching the Guyana/Jamaica match and left for home afterwards. Shortly after they recalled an alarm being raised that the house was on fire. Prince who lived in the upper flat of the house was trapped not far from the door. His cousin who lived at the bottom flat managed to escape from the burning building. It’s unclear how the fire started at this time, but the Police have since detained Prince’s cousin for questioning.
Prince’s friend described him as very easy going and quiet and said it was after some time, that they caught up last night, to watch the cricket match.
His cousin says it was just around 1:00 am when they were called to the scene, but through all the confusion he never thought that Sean was still in the building at the time.
The Guyana Fire service is working to ascertain the origin of the fire as the investigations are continuing.
