A Charlotte Street building owned by popular activist Jocelyn Dow is up in flames and fire fighters in the City are working to contain it from spreading to nearby buildings.
The building housed several businesses and is almost gutted by the fire.
Dow, who also resided there said she is “completely defeated now” with this tragedy. She was alerted to the fire by the smell of smoke but could not save anything when she woke up since the blaze was quickly spreading.
A few years ago a factory owned by Dow which was located on the East Coast Demerara was also gutted by fire.
More details to follow.
