The Islander aircraft nose dived to the ground at just around 5:30 pm Tuesday afternoon at Eteringbang.
Roraima Airways managing director, speaking to members of the media shortly after the body of Captain Collin Martin was flown to the Eugene Correia Airport this evening said: ” Civil Aviation will leave no stone unturned to find out exactly what happened”, the reason being is to prevent these things from happening.
He said all he was told was that the aircraft was closing off it’s operations for the day and it was empty. He said Captain Martin was flying alone and was going in to land when the aircraft crashed.
He confirmed that there were two Roraima planes flying together, returning from Eteringbang when the plane nose dived into the ground.
Martin was the chief pilot at Roraima Airways and an ex-army major special forces of the Guyana Defence Force. Captain Gouveia said he was an experienced and wonderful pilot and his death is a great loss to Roraima Airways.
Gouveia described him as a star Medical evacuation pilot.
“Captain Martin saved many, many lives at nights,” the managing director said.
The Civil Aviation Department is currently interviewing the pilot from the other plane.
Egbert Fields, Director-General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority said the investigating team will be on the ground in the morning to start their investigations into the crash.
