The bust took place during an operation by the Customs Anti-Narcotics (CANU)Unit at house at 221 Clarke Street, Dartmouth Essequibo .
During that operation over 189 pounds of marijuana ( creepe) was seized by CANU.
CANU head James Singh told this newscast that four persons are currently in custody. He said the drugs have a street value of over $80,000 USD.
According to a release from CANU the cannabis was found in several suitcases in one of the rooms in the house.
79 parcels weighed 85.804 kilo grams
It is believed to be commercial “Creepie weed” which was trafficked from Venezuela.
Head of CANU Mr. James Singh said this seizure comes at a time when CANU has been further widening its grasp across the country more particularly in Berbice, Essequibo and other key locations.
The Unit’s key aim is to disrupt smuggling routes.
CANU will no longer wait at known wharves and ports but will work with our local communities, Inter-agencies and our International Counterparts to uncover and intercept narcotics traffickers in their niches and comfort zones countrywide.
