A Canadian national today had a possession heroin charge dismissed against her for lack of evidence.
The woman, twenty-year-old Yuniyka Bovell was charged last year with possession 1.602 grams of heroin for the purpose of trafficking. She was being tried before Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where she had initially pleaded guilty.
Bovell’s attorney Siand Dhurjon made an application for the case to be dismissed since the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit failed to present the drug analysis report to the court.
The magistrate dismissed the case after ruling in the favour of Bovell’s attorney for the matter to be dismissed.
Reports are that the drugs were found hidden in Bovell’s suitcase on the day the search was conducted. Bovell was returning to Canada when the bust was made.
