By Melissa Khan – A family of 5 are now homeless after a fire gutted the upper flat of their two storey home.
The fire started at around 11:45 AM, according to neighbors. When the fire truck arrived it experienced challenges in pumping water to the house which made residents angry.
Neighbors then formed a bucket brigade and they were able to save some of the items from the home.
Thajmattie Jaundoo is now contemplating her next move and is worried about where they will lay their heads.
The woman operated a shop on the lower flat of the building and estimates their losses to be about $22M.
The Fire Chief Chandra Prasad admitted that they had some difficulties in pumping water but they were able to solve the problem with help from the New Amsterdam fire service. He also thanked residents of the area for their help.
