By Farah Bates – A 78 – year- old businessman of Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice was shot and killed at about 23:00hrs on Friday night outside Sandra’s Snackette, Stelling Road, Rosignol when three masked men armed with handguns and a chopper pounced on him and a few others.
The deceased has been identified as Tony Bisnauth who owns and operated the said Snackette along with his wife.
This newscast understands that Bisnauth and his wife, Sunita Khanai had been operating their business for almost 9 years after they returned from London about 16 years ago.
According to information received, the man, his wife and a few family and friends were celebrating his 78th birthday outside the snackette when they were attacked by the bandits who demanded cash and other valuables.
After he refused to comply with the bandits a scuffle ensued between them which caused the armed men to fire several shots.
However, the businessman, Bisnauth received a gunshot wound to his right ear and was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash, his wife was robbed of a cellular phone and a pair of gold jewelry while Nateram Bridgelall, 47 , an electrician and Mahendra Nagamootoo, 25, a carpenter both of Stelling Road, WCB were robbed of their cellular phones.
A police report stated that Bridgelall received a suspected gunshot wound to his right lower abdomen while Nagamootoo received three gunshot wound to his hand and body.
They were all picked up and taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where Bisnauth was pronounced dead on arrival, Bridgelall was treated and sent away and Nagamootoo was transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
