A pensioner and two others are feared dead following an illegal Corentyne River backtrack crossing.

The Police in a Press Statement today said the authorities were alerted to missing persons after the son of a New Amsterdam woman made a report.

According to the Police the 19 year old Joshua Samaroo received a call from his mother Sharida Hussein indicating that she was returning home (Guyana) via boat.

Further, police inquires revealed that his mother was dropped off at # 63 Beach at a specific point where the water was at her waist level and the place was dark after which he lost contact. A search was carried out by family members but was futile.

The Police have said that two other persons, a 75 year old pensioner from Glasglow Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam and an unknown male who are also missing.

The Coast Guard was contacted and a patrol vessel was activated from New Amsterdam to # 61 along the Corentyne River. The search was executed by members of the Coast Guard with support from the Police and family members with the vicinity of #61 Village to Moleson Creek but came up empty handed.
