Two prison officers attached to the Lusignan Prison are under close arrest following the discovery of two pounds of marijuana.
The Police in a press statement said that between 20:00 hrs and 22hrs yesterday a search was conducted in the barracks of the Cecil Kilkenny Training School for Prison Officers when the discovery was made.
The search party discovered a black plastic bag in a cupboard concealed under a sink in a room occupied by two officers. In the black were two large zip lock bags which contained a quantity of leaves, stems and seeds suspected to be cannabis, the release said.
The two officers who were occupying the room at the time were identified as Quincy Jemmott and Seon Alert. The two were placed under close arrest as the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
The presence of illicit substances in the prison system has long been a challenge for the prison authorities.
