Guyana’s COVID-19 related death toll continues to climb with two more deaths recorded today, bringing the total to 46.
The Ministry of Public Health in a press release this afternoon said an 82 -year-old female from Demerara/Mahaica and a 47-year-old woman from Barima/Waini (Region 1)are the two latest fatalities.
According to the release, the 82-year-old woman died receiving care at a medical facility.
Samples were collected from both persons at the time of admission and both tested positive for COVID-19.

Thursday night, the Ministry of Public Health said a 67 -year-old male from Essequibo Islands- West Demerara (Region 3) and a 48-year-old man from Demerara/Mahaica (Region 4) both died from the deadly virus. Both at the time of admission had tested positive for COVID-19.
The MOH expresses sincerest condolences to the families of these persons and will make every effort to provide all the necessary support during this difficult time to render any assistance needed.
The Ministry of Health said officials of the Ministry have contacted all relatives and persons to facilitate contact tracing and rapid assistance to everyone who may have been exposed to the now-dead persons. The Ministry is also appealing to the general public to respect the confidentiality of the deceased and their families and to allow them to mourn their tragic loss in peace.
