Guyana’s COVID-19 cases continue to climb. Today, the Ministry of Health announced that it has recorded 8 new cases. Geographically, it is not known where the new cases are from.

The eight new cases take the country’s figure to now 631 confirmed cases, of which 420 are active.

Five persons are in the COVID-19 ICU. 45 persons are in institutional quarantine. Deaths remain at 22.

Globally, there are more than 20 million confirmed COVID-19 cases in excess of 700,000 deaths related to the respiratory infection.

Health officials have been pleading with Guyanese to act responsibly and to observe the COVID-19 precautionary measures to protect themselves.

The World Health Organisation in a statement in March said that approximately 80% of people will recover from the disease without needing special treatment and for the majority – especially for children and young adults – illness due to COVID-19 is generally minor.
however, for some people, it can cause serious illness. Around 1 in every 5 people who are infected with COVID-19 develop difficulty in breathing and require hospital care.
