The Commissioner of Lands and Surveys Commission, Trevor Benn no longer has the powers to grant approvals for lease lands. That power was today revoked by President Irfaan Ali.
The order which was signed by Ali and published in the official gazette said the delegation of functions order 2016 delegating certain functions to the Commissioner of the Guyana Lands and Survey Commission is revoked.
Benn remains commissioner but he no longer has the power to approve applications for the lease of state lands.
Ali has reverted to the old system which will see applications for lease being approved by the Office of the President.
For some time now, Benn had ceased signing off on approvals for the lease of state lands.
The former David Granger administration had given the Commissioner of Lands and Survey permission to sign off approvals.
