The police were called to a house at 152-154 Begonia Drive, Atlantic Gardens, East Coast Demerara after the motionless body of a 61-year-old woman was found in the house. The woman was identified as Sattie Beekharry.
When the police arrived on the scene the suspect concealed himself in the ceiling to prevent being arrested. The lawmen were forced to discharge tear gas into the house to force the suspect out.
He eventually surrendered to the police. There are reports that the woman sustained injuries to her head and other parts of her body. This newscast understands that the suspect is known to the woman and police sources said from their investigations it was revealed that the woman let him into her property.
The man is said to be 35 years old and a taxi driver. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
