One dead and three injured in east coast Demerara accident

The police are probing a fatal accident which occurred this morning on the Rupert Craig Highway involving a mini-bus and a Rav4 SUV. That accident has left a woman dead and three others injured.

The dead woman was identified as Sabita Sookhoo age 20 of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara. There are reports that she was a passenger in the mini-bus involved in the accident.

The injured persons were identified as Sita Ramjit 44, Marlyn Wilson 44 and Mohan Mangal 45. They were all  rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital to receive medical attention.
This newscast understands that they all had head lacerations and other injuries about their bodies.
They were all picked up from the scene and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
It’s unclear how the accident occurred but both vehicles were heading in the same direction. The police quickly took control of the scene to ensure a free flow of traffic, while at the same time preserving the accident scene.
Both drivers were taken into police custody as the police continue their investigations into the matter.
