By Farah Bates – Four men are in police custody in connection with the gruesome murder of a Rose Hall Town businessman.
Police in ‘B’ Division cracked the case on Friday after one of the suspects allegedly confessed to the murder and implicated four others. The fifth suspect who is believed to be the mastermind is on the run.
Police recovered the safe which the believe was stolen from the businessman’s home which contained approximately $2 million in cash.
Since the incident occurred police have been working thoroughly along the Corentyne area to crack the case. Following a successful intelligence led operation ranks arrested the men from nearby communities.
The body of 49 year old, Lomenzo Johnny,called ‘Sham’ of Lot 11 East Side Line Dam, Rose Hall Town was discovered last Thursday at a construction site a short distance from his home.
The slain businessman would exercise along the street where he lived in the evening.
Johnny owned and operated a Grocery store which is located at the bottom flat of his home.
On the day of his discovery, when his workers turned up for work the shop was closed, after several calls to the businessman’s phone went unanswered his lifeless body was found in the vicinity by passersby.
He was found cladded in his exercise attire with marks of violence about his body.
After committing the act, the men went to the businessman’s home which they ransacked and escaped with the safe containing cash and other valuables.
