By Farah Bates- The 12-year student of Vryman’s Erven Secondary in New Amsterdam lost her life under mysterious circumstances.
Ashley Aiyana Agard of Rotterdam East Bank Berbice died on Monday just after lunch at her friend’s house in their hammock. 
There are reports that the young girl who is a first form student and her friend were playing in the hammock in the lower flat when the
the friend noticed that Ashley was lying unresponsive in the hammock.
She quickly informed her mother who was in the upper flat of the house of what transpired downstairs. Upon checking the woman informed Ashley’s mother.
The distraught mother Samantha Downar speaking to this newscast from her home said she ran over to the house where her daughter was and rushed her to the New Amsterdam Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Downar related that her daughter had lunch minutes before her demise.
A post mortem examination conducted on the young girl’s body revealed that she died from Asphyxiation due to broncho-aspiration of gastric content, compounded by compression to the neck.
Downar does not believe that the neighbors who she has known for many years did anything to harm her daughter.
The police have since launched an investigation into the matter.
