The shooting took place in the compound of the Vigilance Police Station this morning.
Dead is 34yr old Teon Maxwell.
According to a police report, ranks of a police mobile patrol on the East Coast of Demerara, today about 11:40h responded to a report of threats made by Belinda Thomas of 1388 Bareroot, ECD against her 34-year-old reputed husband Teon Maxwell.
The police say on arrival at the home, Maxwell who was armed with a cutlass, was promptly disarmed, arrested and taken to the Vigilance Police Station; and whilst being processed in the Enquiries Office, Maxwell reportedly whipped out a knife and violently attacked and injured two Subordinate Officers who tried to subdue him, he also damaged several windows in the process .
The release stated that the prisoner, still armed, swiftly entered the driver’s seat of the police vehicle that brought him to the station which still had it’s engine running and drove off in an attempt to escape. However, he subsequently crashed that vehicle into another police vehicle in the compound. He was shot during the process according to the police.
Maxwell was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to the police release, the injured ranks, a Sergeant and a Corporal have already received medical attention.
