A 41-year-old man of No. 28 Village, West Coast Berbice is the country’s latest road fatality, according to police.

The bicycle that Joel Jacobs rode when he met his demise
Pedal cyclist Joel Jacobs was riding along the Onverwagt road Saturday afternoon when he was struck down by a hire car driver. The man who was driving the vehicle has not been identified by name as yet but is a 27-year-old who resides at El Dorado Village.
The driver and cyclist were heading in opposite directions when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The driver told police that as he approached a bridge in the village, the cyclist suddenly swerved and came into contact with his car.
As a result of the impact, the cyclist fell, he was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to Fort Wellington Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver and no alcohol was detected; he is presently in custody assisting with the investigation.
