A 21-year-old Albouystown man appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Thursday to answer to the charge of attempted murder of a dog food vendor.
The man, Naresh Samaroo, was today charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Shane Cooper with intent to murder him. The young man appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and was remanded to prison until October 17th.

The incident occurred on September 24th at Stevedore Street and Aubrey Barker Road, North Ruimveldt. Cooper was shot twice while he was plying his trade at the location during a robbery.

There are reports that the suspect also robbed two females of their cellular phones and made good his escape. Samaroo was represented by attorney-at-law Latchmie Rahamat who in her bail application told the court that her client was placed on an identification parade after being held for 72 hours for the robbery. She added that Samaroo was also placed among persons who did not look like him.

The prosecutor objected to Samaroo being granted bail on the seriousness of the offence.
