Mahdia man remanded to prison for shooting another during a fight

A Madhia man was yesterday remanded to prison for shooting a during a fight at Madhia Landing, Region 8.

The shooter 36-year-old Simon Hussain a licensed firearm holder is said to have discharged a loaded firearm at Shohona Monderson with intent to maim, disable or cause actual bodily harm.

The matter was heard in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

The court was told by Prosecutor Simon Payne that there was an argument between the two at the Mahdia. However, during the altercation, Hussain pulled out his 9mm pistol and show Monderson to his shoulder.

The injured Monderson managed to disarm Hussain and the matter reported to the police. Prosecutor Payne in objecting to bail cited the seriousness of the charged, which saw Hussain being remanded to prison until October 15. The matter was also transferred to the Mahdia Magistrates’ Court.
