Former Army Captain Orwin Sandy was today committed to stand trial in the high court for the murder of his girlfriend Reyona Payne, at the conclusion of the preliminary inquiry before Magistrate Judy Latchman, in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Magistrate Latchman said there was sufficient evidence to commit the young man to stand trial in the High Court.
Asked whether he had anything to say, Sandy declined but his attorney, James Bond told the court that they will reserve their witnesses for the High Court.
In May, Bond told the court that his client was seeing a psychiatrist and that he was mentally unfit to stand trial. However local psychiatrist Bhiro Harry told the court that Sandy was indeed fit to stand trial.
On March 31, Sandy shot Payne 14 times after a disagreement.
