A woman was today released on $100,000 bail for burning a 6-year-old left in her care. The woman, Nichole Rosemary appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where she denied the charge of unlawful wounding.

The woman of Benn Street, Lodge is accused of burning the child’s hands. The Court was told that the child was left in the woman’s care and she burned the child on both of his hands with an iron. The incident reportedly occurred between June 1 and 14.

The injury was observed by a teacher when the boy returned to school and the Child Care and Protection Agency called in.

Rosemary through her attorney Everton Lammy-Singh told the court that the child was caught playing with the iron and when she attempted to take the iron away from him, he was burned in the process. Lammy-Singh also told the court that the woman treated the burn on the boy’s hands and the burns were in the process of healing when it was noticed by the teacher.

The woman was released on $100,000 bail and is expected to return to court on July 20.
